To save his younger brother, Ed sacrificed his left leg to bind Al to a suit of armor. Since then, the Elric brothers have searched tirelessly for the Philosopher's Stone, enduring many trials and tribulations along the way. Being a sentient suit of armor has its pros and cons. These are ten things Al could do that Ed couldn't during his time as a genuine 'Fullmetal Alchemist. Head will indeed roll whenever Alphonse hits the scene.
As a direct result of being bound to a suit of metal armor, Al can manipulate his body in several ways that the average person can't. If Al wanted to, he could stride around without his head on a whim. The caveat is that he'd expose Ed's Blood Seal—the only thing that keeps his soul tethered to the armor in the first place.
So Al could pay tribute to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow — he'd just have to be extremely careful with his cosplay.
Another benefit of Alphonse's armored form is that it's partially made of iron, making it incredibly durable. Al could tank blows from heavyweights like Captain Buccaneer, Sloth, and Gluttony without so much as flinching! The average fighter has to worry about potentially breaking their bones or rending their flesh during a skirmish.
But Al can press on with reckless abandon, more or less. Should the Elric brothers find themselves facing down a firing squad, Alphonse's body can provide another useful service: it can deflect low caliber bullets with ease!
All Al needs is a cape, and he can reenact that famous scene from Superman Returns. Big or small, rich or poor, all humans need food and water to survive. In the direst scenarios, we can forgo the former for three weeks and a latter for about one.
Even super soldiers from the Marvel Universe can't go without food forever. If you're Alphonse Elric, however, you can live without food or water indefinitely! Thanks to lacking a digestive system, Al doesn't need to eat or drink. Edward is one of only three people to have single-handedly dealt a killing blow to a Homunculus the other two being Roy Mustang and Scar , coincidentally defeating the Homunculus Pride when he himself has been so prideful throughout the series.

Ben Davis April 2, How does Edward do alchemy without a transmutation circle? As such, the eye that appears in the expanse of Gluttony's stomach also enlarging his mouth when he morphs to his true form is nearly identical to that behind the true Gate, but the space within him is pitch black and everything that has amassed from his eating habits just piles up inside.
Due to this, Gluttony's Gate is full of all the objects he has eaten within a massive sea of his victims' blood. In Chapter , it becomes apparent that both the Earth and the Sun have gates and that it is by harnessing the power of both that Father plans to achieve his objective.
In Chapter it is established that the individual gate is what allows people to use alchemy. In the same chapter, it is implied that the Gate itself can be used as a toll in order to retrieve something that was taken by the Truth, but its loss renders the person to whom it belongs permanently unable to use alchemy.
In the anime, the Gate functions similarly to that of the original manga, appearing as a pair of doors in an endless white expanse and forcing the truth of alchemical knowledge into the minds of alchemists who are called to it by the rebounds of Human Transmutation, but its nature is different. Instead of being a source of alchemical knowledge, the Gate in the series is the origin of alchemical energy and a dimensional portal to another world - the Earth.
It is explained that, when people from "our world" die, their souls become energy which passes through the Gate and becomes the energy used in everyday transmutations in the Fullmetal Alchemist world. Those who pass through the Gate are separated into three parts - the mind, body, and soul - until emerging on the other side. For those unable to cross properly, parts of the mind, body or soul are taken by the Gate, but those who emerge whole on the other side find themselves in the alternate world.
However, it is nearly impossible for those who cross into this realm from the Amestris world to return, as alchemy does not work on Earth.
The Gate in the anime appears, not as stone tablets, but as a three-dimensional, moving version of Auguste Rodin's sculpture of the Gates of Hell from Dante's Inferno. Inside, rather than a black expanse with one eye, space is filled with little shadow children with gleaming purple eyes, all of whom are set to attack beings attempting to pass through the Gate. Behind the shadow children, the single eye can sometimes be seen. Fullmetal Alchemist Wiki Explore.

Memor-X Memor-X While your posts are informative, some parts are very hard to understand due to run-on sentence. It'd be nice if you could take some time to review your posts and fix this problem. Later spoilers up to episode 60 or so , Alphonse Elric recalls his memories, gaining this ability; Roy Mustang is also dragged through the Gate of Truth to gain this ability as well. Even Al, after drawing a circle, does not clap: Roy Mustang's flame alchemy is done by the transmutation of air compressing it very densely , then creating a spark with his gloves to ignite it.
Killua Killua Maroon Maroon Mustangs ignition glove is made from a material that produces a spark when rubbed together His glove also has the Transmutation circle on it If I remember correctly or have correct knowledge it has something to do with breaking down of H2O in the air to make pure forms of hydrogen to ignite a line of flame and oxygen to keep the flame Alive long enough to reach his target My theory on It but it may be different.
Kyle Kyle 1. Roy didn't have his gloves, but he was using Havoc's lighter instead to create a spark. The in-universe explanation given by Havoc, at least in the manga after the train hijacking is that Roy simply needs a spark and to be able to manipulate oxygen concentrations to enable combustion.
Ah, now that I've rewatched the scene, I've made a mistake. Not as complex as I would've like, considering the "painstaking study" that Mr. Hawkeye had to go through in order to create this type of battle alchemy, but mkay.
